EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing)

  • Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy aims at helping an individual to process and heal from traumatic or distressing life experiences. A patient is asked to recall stressful thoughts as the therapist guides him through bilateral stimulation in the form of eye movement, tapping, or tones. This technique taps into the brain’s natural ability to heal itself, allowing you to reprocess these memories with less emotional impact and ultimately rewire your cognitive and emotional responses to traumatic events.

  • During EMDR therapy, individuals are guided to focus on past negative memories and the self-limiting beliefs that may have arisen from them.

In our sessions, I will use eye movements to help your brain begin its reprocessing. At the same time, I will ask you to briefly concentrate on a disturbing memory.

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is effective in treating a variety of mental health conditions, including:

PTSD, Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Grief, Phobias, Addictions, and Dissociative Disorders

  • EMDR is often much faster acting than conventional talk therapy. In addition, EMDR can help access unresolved trauma that talk therapy would take much longer to get to. I've found that EMDR often has a "ripple effect," where processing through a key experiences brings up other experiences related to the distressing memory.

“Changing the memories that form the way we see ourselves also changes the way we view others. Therefore, our relationships, job performance, what we are willing to do or are able to resist, all move in a positive direction.”
